Description
Position Summary: The Mary Walker School District is seeking a highly qualified, collaborative, and creative applicant to serve as a 6th–8th Grade Middle School Math Teacher at Springdale Middle School. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the building principal and will facilitate student success and growth in both academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district and state-approved curriculum. Responsibilities include delivering engaging and developmentally appropriate mathematics instruction aligned to Washington State Learning Standards, documenting student progress and outcomes, addressing the diverse educational needs of middle school learners, creating a flexible, safe, and positive learning environment, and providing ongoing communication and feedback to students, families, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful candidates are educators who inspire middle school students to develop confidence, curiosity, and success in mathematics.
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate middle level or secondary mathematics endorsement, or ability to obtain one.
Comfortable instructing a range of middle school mathematics courses and skill levels for students in grades 6–8.
Strong understanding of adolescent development and the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school students.
Computer literacy and technological proficiency, with interest and ability to incorporate instructional technology into the classroom.
Desire to place cultural competency, inclusion, and relationship-building at the center of instructional practices.
Commitment to modeling and maintaining high standards of professionalism, scholarship, and student expectations.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in grade-level teams, intervention supports, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
Student-centered instructional approach focused on engagement, differentiation, and relationship-based teaching practices.
Experience designing and implementing standards-aligned lessons and curriculum.
Knowledge of instructional frameworks such as Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) preferred.
Familiarity with a variety of formative and summative assessment practices to monitor student growth and inform instruction.
Effective classroom management skills that support a safe, structured, and positive learning environment.
Ability to build positive rapport with students and demonstrate effective leadership, mentorship, and support for middle school learners.
Professional demeanor and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Evidence of ongoing professional growth and participation in professional development opportunities.
Willingness to contribute positively to the overall culture, activities, and programs of Springdale Middle School and the Mary Walker School District.
And other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or district administration.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute positively and enthusiastically to the overall culture, climate, and success of Springdale Middle School and the Mary Walker School District.
Support the goals and continuous improvement efforts of the middle school mathematics program through collaboration, communication, and participation in school initiatives.
Foster strong and supportive relationships with students, families, staff, and the community to support student success both academically and socially-emotionally.
Create engaging, standards-aligned lessons and assessments that promote student growth, problem-solving, and mathematical understanding for grades 6–8 learners.
Collaborate regularly with grade-level teams, intervention staff, and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student data and improve instructional practices.
Participate in middle school advisory, intervention supports, student supervision, and other student-centered activities as assigned.
Attend department meetings, staff meetings, professional development training, and all-district meetings as required.
Assist with school-wide programs, activities, and events, including committee participation, family engagement activities, and student events.
Additional responsibilities may include occasional evening, weekend, or overnight activities associated with student programs, athletics, field trips, or school events.
Demonstrate professionalism through consistent, reliable, and regular attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or superintendent.
